First Contact: the earliest Vikings in the Isle of Man

The chronicles tell about numerous Viking raids in Ireland, beginning in 795, as well as about Norse settlement in 840, but there are none relating to the Isle of Man. Archaeological dating suggests a Viking presence in the Island only by the late ninth century, leaving open the question of when the Vikings' settlement of Man really began and what it was like.
